El Dorado County is located in the Sierra Nevada in California. Its county seat is Placerville. El Dorado means “a legendary place of great wealth and opportunity.” A variety of activities is available during all seasons – from whitewater rafting, hiking, swimming, picnicking, gold panning, fishing and camping in the spring and summer to skiing and snowsports in the winter, El Dorado County has something to offer to everyone. Popular attractions include Finnon Lake Campground, Fitzpatrick Winery, Hidden Lake and Pine Hill State Ecological Reserve among others. It also offers beautiful beaches like Kiva Beach, Calawee Cove and Baldwin Beach. With its rural atmosphere, El Dorado County has a long tradition of agriculture dating back to the gold rush of the 1800s.
